Dell Inspiron 5150: Good for Windows XP Gaming?
Not everyone has the space for a desktop retro PC. So if you’re interested in getting into the Windows XP gaming scene, could this 20-year-old Dell laptop be a viable option?

From what I read, Windows XP will support NVidia graphics up to Maxwell, but Optimus support requires Windows 7 or later. So the highest performing Windows XP laptop would be a vista-era gaming laptop.
I have the XGI Volari GPU module for that same model
Don't be timid, use this laptop as your main rig
Nostalgy and terrible memories. I bought the 5150 brand new from Dell in 2003 or 2004 with a nice SXGA+ screen, a Geforce Go 5200 64mb, 512mb ram and 60gb hard drive for about 20000SEK (about 2700USD). I also paid about 500SEK extra for a DELL carrying bag (about 5kg laptop+charger+bag) and 500 SEK for an external usb 1,44" floppy drive that I never needed to use but still have in my "good to have"- box today. I believe that I bought the P4 3,00 ghz with hyperthreading but got an P4 3,06ghz without hyperthreading, had to send it back for a replacement unit with correct specs that instead had a problem with the screen. Sent the second one back as well and got it back repaired with (used?) scratched plastic parts. Gaming was not great not terrible, remembering it running Half life 2 a bit sluggish. One day maby a year or two after warrenty was up the 5150 did not boot up anymore. Sold it cheap for spare parts. It has been almost 20 years, I never bought a Dell laptop again after the 5150. I think there were a class action lawsuit called the Lundell Settlement about the bad quality of this particular model in the US.
My 98SE 'gaming' (its 3D card is pretty poor for the 3D games of the era but its great for the early DirectX era that just won't run on XP+) laptop is also a Dell that does 1400×1050 – they seemed to like that as their high-end 4:3 resolution
I have 5 or 6 dells from this era. They were given to me about 10 years ago. Although I think yours may be newer.
Happened upon a ThinkPad with, somewhat similar performance, a Mobility Radeon 9600 GPU. Ran C&C Generals quite well, and one game that refused to even boot on win10 system. Quite nice keyboard, too. For 20€, a solid choice for some xp gaming.
Inspiron 5100 was my baby. Fantastic machine other than being a desktop Pentium 4 and containing the heat of the entire universe.
Mine had the ATI Mobility Radeon 7500
These laptops had excellent 2D acceleration taken advantage of by programs such as GIMP and Photoshop, making them excellent machines for digital drawing.
Got old Samsung with core 2 duo t series 2ghz , 256mb ati and i upgraded bios and put ssd on and now it's pretty fast
