  1. Of course Denzel is great in this film, but I think the character of Thomas is the most interesting. Being African American and living in New England, he, no doubt, felt out of place for most of his life. When volunteering for service in the 54th, he was also undoubtedly out of place among volunteers that came from a background of forced, manual labor. Despite being wounded, he refuses to be sent home — it's like he's struggling to prove himself to others and to himself. In my opinion, the most interesting character in the film.

  2. I thought Broderick's performance was outstanding. All the performances were. 'Glory' is one of the best Civil War movies ever made, and tells an important, and often overlooked, story of the first Black Regiment to serve in the US military. Another fine film from a Confederate point of view, is 'Ride with the Devil', with Tobey Maguire and Skeet Ulrich, and directed by Ang Lee.
