Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio movie review – Breakfast All Day
We were blown away by this gorgeous and wildly imaginative take on “Pinocchio” from the brilliant Guillermo del Toro. The stop-motion animation film has been playing in theaters and is now available for streaming on Netflix. Directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson, written by del Toro and Patrick McHale based on Carlo Collodi’s book. Starring the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz and Cate Blanchett.

I'm a HUGE Del Toro fan (I mean, who isn't?) and I'm so glad to hear this is actually a good Pinocchio. I'll be watching it tomorrow for sure!
Thank you so much for the constant content 😀
Jiminy Cricket being a Schopenhauer fan, ‘apparently,’ is everything.
Guilluermo Del Toro's pinnocchio is the best among the 3 movies made this year, Strange that 3 movies came out at the same time.
But if you read the book by Collodi you will find that it is not the childrens book that everyone thinks it is.
I can see the heart and effort Del Toro has put into this movie. A new masterpiece.
Yeah the songs weren’t that great. But it was really funny when cricket kept trying to sing but kept getting crushed or interrupted.
I really do not enjoy having big-name easy-to-recognized star-voices in animated movies. It is jarring and takes me out of the story's myths.
when are you reviewing Bardo?
I liked it a lot. Just feel like some of the kiddier aspects clashed a bit with del Toro's strengths (the songs were way too buttery and saccharine compared with the interesting WWII backdrop, for example). Best animated movie of the year for sure, but 2022 has been pretty weak on that front. But double Tildas is always a good thing, which is a lesson several directors seem to be learning this year!
Got to see it at the Arsley in Charlotte NC a few weeks ago, and it just scared the shit out of me. Something about it projected really made all the frightening stuff that much scarier. I also found David Bradley’s voice heartbreaking.
This looks awesome! Netflix has a 30 min doc on the making of "Pinocchio" Del Toro and all the animators and designers etc. Absolutely nerd-tastic! I didn't have time to watch the movie last night, so I just watched the doc instead, and will watch the movie today. The movie looks fantastic! Getting great reviews from critics I trust (including you of course!!) Thanks!
I wasn’t going to watch this, but I will now! Thank you!
