Nintendo's backward compatibility Problem… | MVG
With recent next generation Nintendo hardware news last week – It’s assumed that Nintendo will provide Switch backward compatibility for their next generation hardware. However, there are some technical hurdles that must be overcome. In this episode we discuss the concerns with backward compatibility and why I have some doubts that Nintendo will bring the entire Switch library to new hardware

I don't know how they're going to do it exactly, but I don't think it is a possibility that they don't incorporate backwards compatibility. Not just faux compatibility either like games getting ports, but actual compatibility with the majority of the switch library. It would be pretty detrimental for them to shunt it completely.
I don’t think it will be a hurdle as Nintendo’s partnership with NVIDIA will lead to an upgrade with similar architecture for their next Hybrid console. It’s just the software layer needs to be all encompassing and I’m expecting enhancements for original Switch games on their next console. Furthermore, if their next-gen console will utilize a different game card slot for newer games, then original Switch games have to have their own separate physical slot. I don’t know if Nintendo will attempt two SKUs as a cost-cutting measure (an all digital version and a physical-compatible version).
If they don't make it backwards compatible, I will sell my switch for a Steam deck and make the full move to PC/Steamdeck gaming.
I've been thinking a lot about this since the leaks.
Is Nintendo really so greedy that they would change the cartridge shape on what realistically will be a newer and better model of the current switch?!
Or they release 2 versions of the new console, one with backward compatibility via an embedded extra chip, one without. The one with backward compatibility could be a larger model marketed as a Pro device.
unless the new switch is really really cheap, failure in backwards compatibility will not be overlooked
If it has backwards compatibility then I'm gonna pre order it day 1!😊👍🏻
If not then I'm screwed.
If it has zero backwards compatibility then I'm gonna be mad, that's extremely important to me. I skipped the Wii U & the Switch for this next one.
The problem with making a “more powerful switch” will be the COST. Something that Nintendo may not consider. If you look at how costly the STEAM DECK is even being exported with taxes… my god.
Then Nintendo needs to make their Switch 2 so powerful that it can emulate current-gen Switch in software. To be honest the current Switch is not that powerful at all.
