I was surprisingly drawn in by this; especially with the backgrounds and how they set it up at the beginning and the end.
You know, I think i'm a smart guy, I enjoy lots of movies, but sometimes subtleties just go over my head. I guess I can just enjoy the pretty people and the pretty scenery and spooky vibe but i cant figure out too much symbolism.
This movie is dull, super slow and pretencious, wich i feel is its greatest sin. The art and fashion references are annoying and it goes NOWHERE.

Like Fight Club, the marketing department had no idea how to advertise this film. I had no idea it was even a horror film.
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Stewart has improved as an actress.
Thank you for recommending this movie. I liked it.
For some reason my favorite leg fetish sites keep directing me to this
SPOILER. It was painfully obvious that the messages came from her boss' boyfriend and that he was tricking her into stealing. After they're over with this plot (which uses most of the time of the movie) they remember it was supposed to be a ghost movie and add that ambiguous ending which is not mysterious, it's preposterous. I'm pretty sure the director wouldn't be able to explain it. And not in a David Lynch way, it was just trying to conceal a lack of direction by being over confusing.
I agree that Stewart is great when she is given good meaty role and more acting space. It's second collaboration of Stewart and Assayas (first was Clouds of Sils Marie) and I hope she will continue to work in European films because it allows her to show her talent and expand her acting abilities. I think Hollywood has problem with good acting because actors (especially, male ones) have to waste their talent on big budget superhero franchises and blockbusters from the get-go and don't have that many vehicles (lack of funding of independent cinema in US and therefore narrowing of cinema – lack of adult dramas is evident) or time to develop their acting skills (they have to build their blockbuster career).
